With innovative technologies derived directly from JBL Professional equipment, the JBL ES Series delivers powerful, accurate audio performance and brings the legendary JBL sound from concert stages, recording studios and cinemas to living rooms, dens, bedrooms and patios. And with two finishes to choose from – black and cherry – they’re designed to look good anywhere, with a style that equals their substance.
Product Features:
  • 25 – 400 watts suggested amplifier power range
JBL engineers designed the ES80 floorstanding loudspeaker to produce impressive, full-range sound from an AVR (audio/video receiver) or amplifier capable of delivering up to 400 watts of power.
  • Dual 6" (160mm), proprietary PolyPlas low-frequency transducers
The ES80’s stiff, lightweight PolyPlas driver material, with a rubber surround, gives great bass response, creates a seamless surround field and minimizes distortion, even at high volumes. Together, the driver and surround give you an unmatched audio experience.
  • 4" (100mm) PolyPlas midrange driver
A great midrange driver is the heart and soul of great sound – and the place where departures from faithful sound reproduction are most noticeable to the human ear. Like the ES80’s low-frequency drivers, its midrange driver uses PolyPlas material. What you hear is true.
  • 3/4" (19mm) HF and UHF tweeters
The ES80’s extremely thin but rigid titanium-laminate high-frequency driver and polyester-film ultrahigh-frequency driver deliver accurate, undistorted response, even when the volume is way up. The end result is a full, clear, tight reproduction of high and ultrahigh frequencies.
  • Proprietary Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) waveguides
Proprietary EOS waveguide technology in the ES80 delivers precise imaging throughout your listening environment. You get ideally balanced music, crisp dialogue and smooth audio distribution. Every seat will be the best seat in your home theatre.
  • Four-way speaker configuration
Four-way speaker design and high-quality cones make for tight, precise bass and midrange reproduction. As a result, the ES80 offers a full range of frequencies and lifelike imaging.
  • Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP)
The ideal path from input to components to transducers is a straight line. The ES80 takes that path. Its Straight-Line Signal Path™ (SSP) technology preserves the clarity, detail and dynamics of your favourite audio content.
  • Computer-optimized, bass-reflex port
The ES80’s computer-optimized, bass-reflex port extends deep bass response. It also eliminates the unwanted turbulence that’s usually associated with powerful speakers.
  • Outstanding audio output
The small but muscular ES80 offers 100 watts RMS and 400 watts of peak power; crossover frequencies of 700Hz and 3.6kHz at 24 decibels/octave and 12kHz at 18 decibels/octave; and 90-decibel sensitivity. Have fun.
  • Accurate frequency response
The ES80 doesn’t over-emphasize or under-emphasize any sounds. With a frequency response of 45Hz ? 40kHz, the ES80 reproduces a true, full sound range ? from deep bass tones to ultrahigh frequencies.

ES80 is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 48.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surround Front Speakers If you are looking for a surround front speaker like I did for a month, then stop looking and buy these. I already had a JBL studio center channel and knew that JBL had great sound quality. These ES80's are terrific! The can be dual wired. There are actually five speakers in the cabinet. Two tweeters, two mids and a base that's ported out the back. I have mine dual wired from the receiver and about a foot from the wall and the base rocks. Awesome highs and lows. They blow out the sound from high range pings to mids to low. Movies are theatre-like in my house now. Even my wife is smiling. Get them now. That's my advice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good sound from a pressed cardboard !! I always look and admired JBL...but when it comes to ES80 or ES Line I may have to stay a way from this product. Well, beside the grate sound and very good design...I don't like how JBL build the ES series, the speaker side cabinet is made of somewhat of special pressed cardboard and nor wood or plywood !? After this they will cover the whole cabinet except the front that is made of plastic with some black vinyl material... My last visit to Fry's electronic it shocked me when in the show room they had a damaged JBL ES80 and at the conner of the speaker someone was pilling layer of brown paper !!? I will let you be the judge :-/

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't Beat these for the price. Purchased these about 6 weeks ago to use as Mains in my 7.2 Home Theater setup. They are very Clear and play real loud without distortion. The Base is Especially Impressive, for such small drivers. Having said that, be advised.... These Speakers are Power Hungry. The more you can feed them, The Better they Sound. I am powering mine with a Yamaha RXV-667 receiver. (90w RMS per channel) I decided to try Bi-Amping them to see how they sounded. The results were Fantastic! Since Bi-amping uses up 2 additional channels, I had to revert to a 5.2 setup. The trade off was worth it. I am very pleased. My home Theater Room is 14'x29' w/10' high ceilings. I am using the ES80 Mains, ES25c center, and a pair of ES30 as rear/surround. Subwoofers are 2- Polk PSW505. I have Enjoyed JBL Speakers for years, and these are no exception. They are Wonderful, at their Price Point. My Advice?....... Go Ahead and Get Them. YOU WON'T BE DISAPOINTED!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Clarity and Rich Mid's I ordered these for my brother this year. As we sit and listen to our favorite tunes for almost a year now, these speakers never disappoint. As a matter of fact even his wife could hear the difference between my older model northridge II series and these. If you are looking for movie watching, music lover, or even audiophile quality, you should consider these at the top of your list. I am an acoustical engineer and I love these. It's not everyday you can sit down and enjoy speakers without wanting to re-engineer how they were built.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great speakers. Super bass !!!!! I've had these speakers for a few weeks and each time I listen to them I am amazed at the sound for the price. Great highs, I really like the tweeter setup, and I cannot believe the bass response I am getting from these. My former speakers had a 10" woofer and I never dreamed I would get better bass out of speakers with 2- 6.5 woofers. I highly recommend these. And great service , very fast shipping and they really know how to pack these speakers, big heavy boxes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value I bought a pair of ES80 speakers and they are very good. I have several pairs of JBL speakers. L220, 4311b. These speakers will not let you down. Great job JBL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blown Away After two weeks of getting to know these speakers all I can say is i'm very happy with these speakers. They are a tremendous deal at $144 a piece. These are true full range speakers which don't need a sub for bass. I have these paired with the matching center, and surrounds with a hsu audio 10 inch sub. At full price they outclass any speaker under $500 a piece. Do yourself a favor and jump on this killer deal!

Asked by: Oromaze
Meilleures salutations.

Would the ES80's work well strictly as an audiophile system. I don't plan on using these in a home theatre situation. Thanks

Asked by: pdub
The ES80 speakers are wonderful sounding speakers, especially for the price. But for the most common high quality system situations, these speakers will do great.

I have 2 es250p 4 es80 no center speaker cuz not in stock currently. what amplifier jbl or harman/kordon offers for this set up I'm using 4 es80 forfront and backs should I go with 2 receiver one for lows and one for highs thanks in advance

Asked by: Ebooo
The ES80 speakers can handle up to 200 watts per channel. This means that any receiver with a power output of 200 watts per channel or less will work fine with these speakers. If you're looking for a 5.2 home theater system, a single AVR will do. Both receivers from our sister company, Harman Kardon, the AVR 1710S and AVR3700, will do a fine job driving these speakers based on your set up. It really comes down to your listening preference. For example, if your listening taste only requires 30 watts per channel of power in order to be loud enough for you, there would be no reason to get a 200 watt per channel amplifier, as you will never use all of that power. The most important thing is to get a receiver that puts out enough volume for you, without exceeding the 200 watt limit of the speakers.

Can it be directly connected to TV or an equalizer needed in between? How about to play from phone or tablet?

Asked by: venu
The ES80 is a passive speaker (no power). It must be connected to a stereo or surround sound receiver in order to function.

does this only come with one or two speakers?

Asked by: mavrickdew
All of our floor standing speakers are sold as each, not in pairs. You would need to purchase 2 in order to end up with a pair.
